Ingredients

1 CUP ALL PURPOSE FLOUR

2 TSP. BAKING POWDER

1/4 TSP. CREAM OF TARTAR

1/4 TSP. SUGAR

1/4 TSP. SALT

1/4 CUP COLD BUTTER. CUBED

1 CUP GRATED ORANGE CHEDDAR, 5 YEARS OR OLDER

1/8 CUP CHEDDAR CUBES APPROX. 3/16”

1/3 CUP PLUS 2 TBSLP. MILK

Preparation

PREHEAT OVEN TO 450° F.

PREHEAT STONE AT SAME TIME.

MIX FLOUR, BAKING POWDER, CREAM OF TARTAR, SUGAR AND SALT IN MEDIUM BOWL. CUT IN BUTTER WITH PASTRY BLENDER OR TWO KNIVES UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES COARSE CRUMBS.

STIR IN CHEDDAR CHEESE AND CUBES. ADD MILK, STIR UNTIL MIXTURE FORMS SOFT DOUGH.

PLACE ON LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE, KNEAD 8-10 TIMES OR UNTIL SMOOTH.

PAT DOUGH INTO 6 INCH SQUARE. CUT INTO 9 SQUARES. PLACE 2 INCHES APART ON STONE.

BAKE APPROX. 9 MINUTES OR UNTIL GOLDEN BROWN.

NOTE: AN UNGREASED BAKING SHEET CAN BE USED IF STONE NOT AVAILABLE BUT EXTEND BAKING TIME TO 10-12 MINUTES. RECIPE CAN BE DOUBLED FOR LARGER QUANTITY. THESE FREEZE WELL.
